Last weekend, I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s Mega Conference in Long Beach – an inspirational gathering of more than 4,000 Certified Holistic Health Coaches (CHHC’s). I am truly blessed to be a part of such an amazing community of informed and inspirational leaders dedicated to helping others on their journeys to better health and wellness. The CHHC’s I met come from all different walks of life – some have backgrounds in nursing, nutrition, physical therapy, pharmaceuticals, and medicine; others own health clubs or spas, are former accomplished athletes, teach yoga, and practice reiki, or massage therapy; others own restaurants, are respected chefs or have created food/health related product lines; and many others come from backgrounds completely outside the fields previously mentioned (i.e. banking, law, finance, and retail store owners to name a few).
Had an amazing opportunity to hear from some of the well-known names in the world of nutrition and nutrition theory including Mark Sisson (Author of The Primal Blueprint); David Wolfe (the author of many best-selling books including Eating for Beauty, Naked Chocolate, David Wolfe on Raw Foods, Superfoods, and Superherbs, Amazing Grace, Superfoods: The Food and Medicine of the Future and The LongevityNOW Program); Paul Pitchford (Healing with Whole Foods: Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition); and Julia Ross (author of The Diet Cure and The Mood Cure).
Listened to an inspirational story of sugar, sickness, money and family from John Robbins, the son of the founder of Baskin Robbins ice cream and author of Diet for a New America: How Your Food Choices Affect Your Health, Happiness and the Future of Life on Earth. Also heard from Sean Corn, internationally celebrated yoga teacher known for her impassioned activism and inspirational style of teaching which incorporates the physical and mystical aspects of yoga. And there were more!
What did I learn from all these amazing speakers? That we are all individuals and our journeys to health and wellness will take very different paths accompanied by different nutritional philosophies…and this is ok. BIO-INDIVIDUALITY is the core concept of IIN’s Program, and I believe in this concept more and more each day as I strive to improve my own health, work with clients on improving their health, and hear stories from family and friends that share their health and wellness experiences with me. I also know that I am in the right place at the right time. Health coaching is the perfect fit for me 🙂
So fortunate to have had this experience last weekend. There is so much more I want to share with all of you! Stay tuned for more information regarding a few superfoods and superherbs as well as more specific details surrounding the nutritional philosophies I learned about. Hope you are all doing well on your journeys to health!
