Getting Back on Track

Just back from an awesome week of vacation on the east coast in Madison, CT, a lovely little ocean town.  Well, it was mostly awesome except for my family of five sleeping in one bedroom.  It was very entertaining.  We had lots of fun in the sun, shell picking on the beach, hiking trails, riding scooters, and eating crap with very little exercise.  Wait, it was basically NO exercise for the entire week!  I don’t count walking at a snails pace as a workout.  Wondered why I was so exhausted yesterday and today.  I think it was a the culmination of a week of being not-as-healthy as I usually am – eating too much junk, very little exercise, and broken sleep.  Going to be a challenge to get back on track this week but I’m determined to do it to feel like myself again!

Headed to the gym this morning for a quick 7 miles on the treadmill and an hour of lifting weights.  It was SO REFRESHING!  Made me wonder why I was so lazy for the past week. Tomorrow is going to be some biking and maybe a little swimming.  Ate only “whole” foods for the entire day and going to continue that plan for a few days to get all the junk out of my system.  Had the best salad of my life tonight!  Had been dreaming about it all day.

Traveling does pose some challenges on a healthy lifestyle depending on where you are going, who you are staying with, how long you are going for, etc.   My life is all about enjoyment, wellness, and fun; however, sometimes that must be balanced with a little bit of flexibility, tolerance, and understanding.   Not everyone is living the same healthy lifestyle I have chosen to attempt.  Did not want to be a P.I.A. for the entire week so I went with the flow. And you know what?  I’m still alive and doing ok. Feeling a bit tired and not 100% of my energetic self, but I know exactly what I need to do to get back on track.  Guess it’s a good thing that I don’t go on too many vacations 🙂

So enjoy your summer vacations people.  You don’t have to be “out of control;” however, don’t be disappointed if there are a few slips during your vacation time.  Make a healthy/better decision when the opportunity arises at the next meal, snack, moment to exercise and don’t look back.  Look forward to a healthier you!

    Your post is spot on this week! As I plan for our upcoming vacation to Disneyworld this fall, my main concern was how were we going to get all the fresh fruit and veggies that we need each day? I can’t imagine there being an organic farmers market on the grounds 🙂 I’m psyching myself up for the adventure and your post helps me realize I will survive…..even if I end up eating out the whole time. My husband has warned me not to be a P.I.A. about this issue and to not try and pack any food in disguise as it will rot before it’s in my hands again. boo who for me

    • Laughing a bit as I read your comment, Wendy, because my hubby said the exact same words to me. It does take a little bit of mental prep. And I think you’re right – probably nothing organic at Disney. Do they even sell vegetables there?! 🙂 Do the best you can and make as many healthy choices as you can (that are easy to make)…order veges whenever possible…even if not organic, better than no veges for the week. Enjoy this wonderful time with your family and know you can get right back on track when you get home. Have fun!
